Queens, NYC — On Sunday, December 3, 2023, at approximately 5:09 a.m., Police Officer Decio and his partner, Police Officer Richard Gonzalez, responded to 467 Beach 22nd Street, Queens, for a 911 call of multiple people stabbed at 467 Beach 22nd Street, Queens. Upon arrival, Officer Decio and Officer Gonzalez encountered 38-year-old Courtney Gordon standing in front of the location. The officers began to question Gordon to ascertain information about his presence there. As the officers questioned him, Gordon removed a knife from his rear pocket with his right hand and began to stab the officers.

Officer Decio was stabbed on the left side of his neck, and Officer Gonzalez was stabbed in his left temple. As a result, Officer Decio discharged five shots from his service firearm at Gordon. Gordon was struck by the gunfire and fell to the ground. He was transported via ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Officer Decio and Officer Gonzalez were transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and treated for their injuries. Further investigation revealed that prior to his encounter with Officer Decio and Officer Gonzalez, Gordon had stabbed five members of his family inside of 467 Beach 22nd Street.

The victims are two children, an 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy. The 11-year-old girl was lying in a pool of blood at the front of the house. She was taken to hospital but later died of her injuries. Two other victims were identified as a 44-year-old female and a male in his 30s. Another 61-year-old female is severely wounded and is receiving treatment for multiple stab wounds. According to local media reports, Gordon was a homeless man and his aunt had provided her with safe accommodation in her own house. Little did she realise that Gordon would reciprocate this gesture of kindness with mass murder.
