Home Made Ground Cover for Model Railroads
Sometimes the best materials for modelling with are right under our noses, fallen leaves and bark that have been drying on the ground are a great example of natural material that we can use on our model railroads and dioramas.
I’ve been using them for a while with fantastic results, simply gather up dead leaves and bark then ground them down to a fine texture, the beauty of this is it works for all scales. Depending on the scale you model simply sift out the larger pieces until your left with the size you want.
I’ve used this for HO scale as well as N scale and both give a realistic result. This process is very simple and will most definitely save you a lot of dollars. Just be sure to use dead leaves and avoid green leaves that have not completely dried out as they will change color over time on your layout.
