On the high mountains of the Yunnan Plateau, lush pine forests thrive. In August, the forest floor yields fresh matsutake mushrooms, and by October, the treetops are heavy with plump pinecones, filled with sweet and fragrant pine nuts. Climbing dozens of meters to the treetops without any protective gear is already a challenging feat. Extracting the pine nuts from the cones is an equally time-consuming and labor-intensive process. But the aroma of pine nuts makes it all worthwhile—rich with the scent of pine resin and nuts!
