If you have diabetes, you can still eat fruit. A recent study published in the PLOS Medicine that analyzed the diet and results of more than 500,000 Chinese adults, proved that there is no reason to avoid fruit because of its sugar content.
Fresh fruits are good for our general health. They pack a lot of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. The fructose in fresh fruits is not as dangerous as the fructose you get from drinking fruit juices or corn syrup. Moreover, the fiber in fresh fruit will help prevent blood sugar spikes, keep cholesterol under control and help you feel full for longer.
So, you can make fresh fruit part of your diet even if you have diabetes. However, you’ve got to be somewhat careful and avoid certain fruits.
