Weird Sony Head Unit Bug! MEX-N6001BD (not a wiring issue)
This is a quick video to highlight some problems I had with the Sony MEX-N6001BD head unit. There was a confirmed bug with the unit replicated by following these steps:
1. Listen the radio on FM1 band
2. Switch to CD
3. Switch the ignition off
4. Turn the ignition back on
5. Switch from CD to Radio
6. The unit now incorrectly switches to FM2 instead of FM1
Halfords replicated the fault in their own test rack. They also tried swapping the red / yellow ign / perm live and that didn't cure the problem, although by the nature of this fault this obviously wasn't a wiring issue. Halfords also tried 3 separate brand new identical units in their own test rack - all exhibited the same bug. Sony later confirmed this to be a firmware bug but didn't offer any further assistance beyond that.
There was also another separate bug whereby the FM1 band would occasionally vanish completely (seen on vid). AND there was another bug whereby occasionally all sound from the Radio would stop - CD would work but all radio stations would be silent (seen on vid). This particular bug was very intermittent. TO REITERATE the bug was replicated on Halfords' own test rig on 3 separate brand new radios. THIS WAS NOT A WIRING ISSUE.
Do you have similar issues with this head unit? Would love to hear your experiences and whether this bug has been fixed in subsequent firmware releases! Thanks for watching and don't forget to hit Subscribe!
