Think you’ve seen all that Singapore’s museums have to offer? Think again. Less than 10% of Singapore’s National Collection of art and artefacts – which numbers over 250,000 – are actually on display at a time.

The rest are kept under 24-hour guard in a deceptively ordinary looking six-storey facility in Jurong. At the Heritage Conservation Centre, precious artefacts belonging to 11 of Singapore’s museums and heritage institutions are stored, conserved and readied for show.

We gain access to this high-security building and peek into its vaults, where some surprising finds await. Meet the people who work behind the scenes and find out what porcupine quills, termite poop and a blowtorch have to do with putting on a museum exhibition.
