FIRST LOOK: Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 RS – New Nürburgring King?
The 1048bhp Mercedes AMG One is the production car lap record holder at the Nürburgring… and yet, despite being over 500bhp down on it, the current Porsche 911 GT3 RS would be nipping at its heels all the way around the iconic track. With pace like that, you don’t really need to go faster, do you?
Well, Manthey thinks so. And as such, it’s given us this: the Manthey Performance Kit for Porsche’s track monster. It’s Manthey’s most in-depth upgrade to date, as it must take on the GT3 RS’s trick suspension and clever active aero and go one better.
But wait, before you get sniffy about a tuned Porsche, remember that Manthey is 51% owned by Porsche, so this is essentially a factory car. Manthey and Porsche’s GT department use the same test driver, for instance, and you can buy the new kit through Porsche dealerships.
That, and Manthey is Porsche racing royalty, with multiple class wins at Le Mans, and is just coming off the back of its 911s finishing first and second in the LMGT3 category in this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship. If anyone’s going to know how to make a Porsche faster on track…
How has Manthey waved its magic wand though? Over to Top Gear’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, for all the answers…
