The 2nd round of the 2019 Comeup Xtreme Winch challenge provided teams with something new. A two-car team challenge. With 12 Winch Trucks taking on the Comeup Xtreme course, we had 6 teams tackling the tough terrain, with many, like Peter and Jaydon Jilg in the GQ Patrol putting the winch to good use in the team stage.

For others, like Kevin Gorrick and Josh Rathbone, winching was optional driving many of the winch walls.

Rod and Russell Rathbone broke an axle on the log stage, the same log they’ve had issues with at previous rounds.

For Team Ranga, their day would be interrupted with a broken transfer case, they’d have to winch themselves off the course. But they also managed to replace it and return for the final stage of the day.

Steve Reid and Cooper Anning in the 100 Series started the day on a roll, literally. They quickly recovered and still did every stage for the day.

There was plenty of Newcomers at round 2 including Mike Grimer and Mick Somerall in a Hilux. They were getting into the swing of it, setting the fastest time over the log course. Had it not been for a penalty for re-positioning, they would have won the stage.

The farm truck was looking good throughout the day. Dave Burrows and Howard Jumbo Crossley driving some walls and winching others.

The Mav was working well for Pete Bannister and Iain Hughes, climbing the rock wall in the lunchtime stage with ease.Their teammates Thomas Bowden and Aaron Melville in a similar GQ Patrol didn’t have the same luck with smoke pouring off their winch. But It still managed to get them up the hill.

Cameron Nixon and Ashley Germon in another Toyota Hilux were another team to drive one of the harder winch walls. Another newcomer getting into the spirit of the XWC event.

John Adamson and Mick Barrett in the 80 Series Landcruiser took an interesting approach to the log crossing, it was a good plan, but the log would win and they’d end up winching over the fallen tree,

Phil Bell and Scott Eyb in the FJ45 Toyota had a good attempt at driving one of the winch walls, but would end up having to winch. Despite winching, they still made good time in the stage.

There are another two stages tomorrow, with plenty more action to come.
