Most people would think of a Japanese-inspired home as one that is like what you would see at a Muji shop - minimalist, pristine, and neat. But this Telok Blangah HDB home is something a little different - adopting what is better known as Zakka-style living. It is a Japanese concept of embracing a mishmash of things that enable happiness, but in a relaxed and lived-in manner. It's especially appropriate today as people spend more time at home, as achieving a minimalist home isn't always realistic.

Homeowner Herman decided to self-design his home, and has carefully curated all the items and plants together. He clearly is a big fan of Japan, and you can see that influence throughout the home. One of the features we especially like is the dining and kitchen area, with the door curtains and magazine rack providing Japanese-Izakaya vibes which really transports you back to Japan almost instantly.
