The Solomon Islands has been the subject of intense focus since it was revealed in March that the Pacific nation is in the process of formalizing a security arrangement with China. Some countries fear the security agreement paves the way for China to deploy troops and build a military base on the islands. Both China and the Solomon Islands have denied the speculation, but this has fallen on deaf ears. What exactly does the security pact entail? Why has it raised concerns in countries such as Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.?
