Problems With My Tiny House In The Mountains (Story 68)

Timeline of how I build the house & cost:

I spent 2 years working customer service jobs in the city to save the money for this house.

I spent the past year building the house.

The first thing I bought was the windows and doors, at a second hand building supply store, because they were very much discounted ( roughly 1,100$ total for all the windows and the big sliding glass door)
I then planned roughly the design based on the size of the windows.

I bought a 24 ft trailer from someone locally who takes scrap metal and re-welds it into trailers (price of trailer around 1,800$)

I ended up extending the house a foot and a half so the total length is 25.5 ft

I framed the house in March of 2020, and then a couple months later the price of lumber doubled, which I hadn’t planned for but that’s life I guess.
I was working at a grocery store during the build so all the money I made working was going towards the house.

My dad helped me frame, sheath the house, and lift in the doors and windows (also my neighbor came over a couple times for some of the heavier lifting)

Once that was done I finished the rest of the exterior (putting up the siding the installing the metal roof)

My brother Cole helped me with the last wall of the siding, I ran out of wood so we had to use scrap wood and puzzle piece it together (thanks Cole!!)

At that point the house was water tight. This was around august. It had taken me quite a long time to get to this point because summer was busy and I was working a lot.

I finished the interior myself, installing the insulation, putting up the plywood walls, installing the pine floor and the ceiling, plumbing, wiring, etc

In total the total cost of wood (structural 2x4 , sheathing plywood for outside, interior plywood, pine floor and ceiling) was roughly 7,000 in total

I went back to my parents house in the city for a couple weeks to use my dads wood shop to build the kitchen cabinets, the pantry, and the storage bins underneath the bed ( I used maple 3/4 inch plywood for this)

I wired the house at 120v (50amps) but I am only able to run 30 amps to the house (I wired it at 50 amps to give myself more options down the line)

I ran 360 ft conduit underground which cost about 500$ in wires.

I plan on one day installing solar panels, but I didn’t have the budget for them during the build unfortunately. (Spent all my money on wood because the price was so so damn high, Lol)

I moved into the house the beginning of November 2020, right before it started to snow.

The house cost in total roughly 20,000 $ (that’s including the cost of the fridge and wood stove)

House isn’t finished yet, I have some exciting additions that I will be doing this spring once the snow melts and I can bring building materials in (too much ice and snow right now, so I cannot drive into where I live, I have to park at my neighbors a mile down the road)

Thanks for watching!
