THE WIDE BODY!! 😍 And 6 cylinders! Which is no surprise to RBR viewers as we predicted this many times! And it’s also then no surprise to you that this #AMG 53 likely shares the same body as the next version, which is the 63 e performance!

Smart move by #MercedesAMG

They know the market for their 2 door coupes is one that is demanding of emotion. And with the fallout of the 4 cylinder AMG C63 being unanimously hated: they’re giving the more attractive entry level car more attractiveness!

Instead of the 4 pot, the new #CLE53 4MATIC+ uses an upgraded version of the 3.0-litre M 256 inline six-cylinder turbo engine. The facelift of the engine is now designated M 256M has 20HP more at 450HP thanks to optimized combustion chambers, new piston rings and a new larger exhaust gas turbocharger!

It also has a new electric additional compressor, with more boost pressure of 0.4 bar to 1.5 bar. This gives us more torque than before of 560 Nm continuous or 600 Nm in overboost for up to 12 seconds.

More important torque figure, is how accessible it is thanks to that new compressor. It can now be operated almost continuously over a longer period of time.

There’s a new second-gen integrated starter generator (ISG) which is now integrated into the gearbox bell housing. This gives 23 hp of power and 205 Newton meters of torque, which is less than the old one which gave 250NM. No one can tell me why! I’ll let you hopefully know in the next video.

However, it’s .5 quicker to 60 than the previous E53! So lots of other changes helping it be faster.

Strangely we have the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, not the MCT from the E63/C63/GT etc. This is a torque converter transmission, instead of multi clutch, so will it shift slower? Time will tell.

AMG ride control suspension like the other flagship cars is also in this car, it’s a steel-spring suspension with Adaptive Damping.

Our car today has the “AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package “ which gives Race mode with drift mode, Active engine mounts, Red callipers and the Microfibre steering wheel.

Today we’ll check every detail in and out, as well as make a tonne of comparisons to cars like the previous C63S coupe and BMW’s M440i.
